In 1906 the second Roper Hospital was built on the corner of Calhoun and Lucas streets on the location of the Memorial (City) Hospital which was immediately across the street from the site of the 1914 Medical College building. This building new Roper became old Roper when the Medical Society built and opened the Roper Hospital Palmetto Pavilion in 1946. Old Roper was closed to incoming patients in 1959 and was demolished in 1967 and replaced by a parking lot.
