DAVID AIKEN

Dr. David Aiken bought this unit in 1912 after witnessing its demonstration at a Southern Dental Association meeting in Asheville, North Carolina. Dr. Aiken of Winnsboro, South Carolina, was the first dentist in the state to use an x-ray machine in his dental practice. Born in Winnsboro, South Carolina, on February 7, 1868, he attended The Citadel and later attended the University of Maryland, from which he earned a degree in dentistry in 1890. He returned to Winnsboro, where he practiced dentistry for the rest of his life. Dr. Aiken was elected president of the South Carolina State Dental Association in 1924 and served as a member of the South Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners from 1926 to 1935. He died in Winnsboro on March 10, 1949.
